Cal Recreational Sports
Academic Talent Development Program

Academic Talent Development Program

Cal Adventures and Cal Youth Outdoor Programs offer an exciting sport and recreation camp in conjunction with the UC Graduate School of Education's Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP). At this camp, students who are already enrolled in ATDP academic classes spend a portion of their day participating in sports and recreation activities. The cirriculum of each activity is developed specifically for ATDP students and geared toward nurturing the fundamental skills necessary for each activity through fun, experiential learning. Presentations will be given by various classes on the final day of the ATDP school session, July 30, 2010.

Activities

Campers participate in three to four activities, daily, for three weeks. We usually offer a choice of activities each hour that includes either a traditional sport (basketball, soccer, etc.) or a recreational or fine art activity (drama, art, board games, etc.). Participants have the option of selecting activities on the first day of camp. Campers are usually able to switch an activity within the first several days if they find they would enjoy another activity more. Our sports and recreation programs may be very active.

Please note: Activities offered may vary due to staff, facilities and preferences. Email us at scrainfo@berkeley.edu if you have a question about the program

Extended Care

CYOP offers optional morning and afternoon extended care programs. Morning extended care program begins at 7:30am. Afternoon hours are from 4:15pm-5:30pm. ATDP and CYOP staff escort participants between programs. Children must be enrolled in both the half-day sport/recreation camp and ATDP program to register for extended care (except for Wednesday full-day sport camp participants). The cost per three-week extended care session is $80. Alternatively, per diem extended care is available for $15 per time slot (AM / PM).

Wednesday Program

Take advantage of the optional Wednesday sports program providing either a full-day or afternoon half-day of sports and outdoor education activities. Highlights from our 2006 summer camp include: Sea Kayaking at the Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline and Rock Climbing on Cal Adventures Mobile rock wall.  Students should wear tennis or running shoes (no sandals or open-toed shoes, please!) and athletic apparel. All sports equipment is provided.

Lunch/Snack

Participants need to provide their own snack and lunch (including beverage). A snack break is usually scheduled mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Children are very active and get very hungry, so please pack plenty of snack and food items.

BART

The CYOP does not provide escort/transportation service to and from the BART station. Please contact the ATDP office for information on transportation between Washington School in Richmond and BART.
